In Chinese, “Zhen Xian Bao” literally means "needle thread pack" or "needle and thread pockets."
These paper-folded books feature numerous interlocking, multi-tiered compartments and hidden boxes that fold out or collapse flat.
Students explore what a thread book is and the various ways of construction (cut and glue, origami, or a combination of both).
Includes a discussion about paper types and weights.
Choice of 2 different handmade papers
X-acto knife
HB pencil and eraser
Glue stick
Ruler
Cutting mat
Bone folder (if you have them)
Plain copier paper; for practice work
Over the course of life, Lesley has dabbled with different ways of being creative - ranging from drawing and painting to paper-maché, stencilling, and even stained glass designs. In 2019, Lesley retired from a career in software design and decided to expand their art horizons by ‘branching’ out into new mediums. Since then, Lesley has discovered the art of bookmaking and gel printing, and has expanded into sketching, watercolour, and acrylic painting skills, to include Celtic knot designs.
