Students are responsible for their own art materials; see below for materials list
Students are guided outside of the traditional portrait drawing and painting box, to discover a colourful, expressive and efficient way of creating different kinds of portrait, based on temperature, and colour play.
The session starts by working from a provided photo, and where creating likeness is not the objective.
Next the class works from a live model, with or without a head-dress; opening another dimension to the portrait painting experience.
Graphite pencil
Black or Sepia charcoal pencil
Two 16 x20 Canvas Pad (not canvas paper) or canvas boards or stretched canvas
Polymer (acrylic) or if working with traditional oil / water soluble oils the appropriate Odourless solvent
Your choice of opaque non-toxic paints (acrylics, water-soluble oils, traditional oil (odourless solvents only) including colours:
Oil Painters will need a tube of acrylic paint N5 or N6 Neutral Grey (Golden)
Cadmium Red Med
Cadmium Orange
Ultra- marine Blue
Lemon Yellow
Cadmium Yellow
Paynes Grey
Alizarin Crimson
Titanium White
Magenta
Teal
(plus whatever colours you have and prefer)
Paint palettes
Rags, towels, water container
Synthetic or bristle brushes; assortment large to small
Stephanie is an established multi-Disciplinary visual artist with over 40 years of experience in portrait and figurative painting. Her ability as a multi-disciplinary artist enables her to focus more on leading and fostering students, whether privately or as groups, towards imagination and self-expression in her workshops.
Recently she is the recipient of the 2023 Marty Award, from the Mississauga Arts Council, for the category of Established Artist in Traditional form and her mentorship in the arts for Peel region.
