OPEN TO ALL LEVELS

The focus of this workshop is to learn the fundamentals of colour mixing using 3 primary colours along with the benefits of a limited colour palette.

The class will focus on understanding the colour wheel and making colour charts that will provide you with guidance and reference for future work. 

Colour studies using different colour schemes, neutrals and value tones will also be used. 

This workshop will help you to choose colour schemes based on the new understanding of colour you’ve gained from the exercises and lessons in class!

Understanding the science of colour will not only grow your painting practice but guarantee harmonious colour in your paintings!

Materials List

  • 4 - 5” x 7” canvas boards or canvas paper for colour charts

  • 1 or 2 - 8” x 10” canvas board or paper for colour studies

  • Acrylic or oil paint (please no Liquin)
    Your colour set should include the 3 primary colours: 

    • primary magenta or red

    • primary cyan or ultramarine blue 

    • Primary yellow or cad/hansa yelllw 

    • Plus titanium white for colour mixing & exercises 

  • Odourless mineral spirit if using oils (and jar with lid)

  • Rags or paper towels

  • An assortment of your favourite brushes

  • Mixing palette

  • Palette knife

About Sue A. Miller

A graduate of Fine Art at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario graduating in 1986, Sue has continuously worked from her studio in Creemore, Ontario known as The Mill Street Art Studio. Her work is informed by a collective imprint of landscape that has influenced her life since early childhood. Her work is represented by In2Art Gallery in Oakville Ontario, and is held in private collections across North America, Europe and Japan. Sue was a founding member of the Creemore Arts Centre from 2004 - 09 and has an extensive teaching career which has included owning The Bay School of Art, on location work with First Nations in Newfoundland/Labrador and Nova Scotia, programming workshops for Autism Ontario, facilitating art retreats in Newfoundland and is part time summer faculty at Sir Sanford Fleming College, Haliburton Campus.
