In this class, we’ll focus on how Van Gogh used bold colour and strong warm–cool contrast to create a glowing night scene — without relying on black. Rather than getting caught up in detail, we’ll simplify the scene and capture the feeling of light and atmosphere. We’ll also explore mixing clean, vibrant colour and using loose, directional brushwork to bring energy into the painting.
Working from a painting like this is one of the best ways to learn — it helps you understand how Van Gogh was thinking as he built the image.
Suitable for beginners with some painting experience and intermediate painters. Demonstrations and individual guidance will be provided throughout the day.
