Level: Beginner / Intermediate
Price: $110.00 +hst

  • Students are responsible for their own art materials; see below for materials list

OPEN TO ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE

In this one day workshop, artist Deb Menken will show you how you can get started with acrylic painting with just a few tubes of paint and a sketchbook. If you are interested in learning to paint, Deb will explain why she uses acrylics and why she thinks they are the most versatile medium available.

We will learn how to play and be focused on playing and experimenting rather than trying to create a masterpiece. You will learn how to mix your own colours, keep your paints from drying out, paint without a brush and follow your curiosity using a good dose of courage. At the end of the day, you will leave with the tools needed to be able to continue your sketchbook practices at home.

Materials List

  • 9” x 12” Canson XL Mix Media sketchbook

  • Tri-Art Foundations Gesso (250 ml White)

  • A roll of painter masking tape (at least 1 inch wide)

  • 3 tubes of heavy body paint:

    • a blue,

    • a yellow,

    • and a primary magenta

  • A long pallet knife for mixing paint

  • An 11” x 14” shallow plastic storage container with a tight fitting lid, e.g. Sterilite Clip Box, to use as a stay wet palette

  • Paper towel

About Deb Menken

Deb Menken is a mostly self -taught artist who loves to experiment and try new things. The subject matter is not the most important thing to her but rather the act of applying the paint to canvas and following the intuitive nudgings of "What happens if I do this?" She has learned to trust the nudgings, delight in the happy accidents and store up discoveries for future use. Deb enjoys encouraging and inspiring others to paint and not be afraid to make mistakes because really there are no mistakes, only learning opportunities.
