This course is not suitable for the beginner who has never touched a brush, instruction is designed for those who have some previous experience with acrylic painting
Students are responsible for their own art materials; see below for materials list
While technique remains an important aspect in this class, emphasis is placed on composition, negative space, and contrast, where colour is concerned. Topics covered include:
How to use palette knives and silicone scrapers
Properties of acrylic modelling gels and paste
Colour theory
Painting from reference photo
2 birch wood canvases or Masonite boards at least 18x24”
If square format is preferred, start at 20x20”
Pencil and eraser (optional)
Hog Hair Bristle brushes: large round, 1-2” flat
A few palette knives and/ or silicone catalysts
Modelling Paste
Modelling Gel
Tri-Art Polymer medium (gloss or semigloss)
Heavy body Acrylic
These are suggested colours (need to have red, blue, yellow, white, black)
NO FLUID ACRYLICS
Cadmium Red
Magenta
Cadmium Yellow
Yellow Ochre
Cerulean Blue
Phthalo Blue (Red Shade)
Titanium White
Mars Black
And any other colours you have or like
Stephanie is an established multi-Disciplinary visual artist with over 40 years of experience in portrait and figurative painting. Her ability as a multi-disciplinary artist enables her to focus more on leading and fostering students, whether privately or as groups, towards imagination and self-expression in her workshops.
Recently she is the recipient of the 2023 Marty Award, from the Mississauga Arts Council, for the category of Established Artist in Traditional form and her mentorship in the arts for Peel region.
