Learn the fundamentals of watercolour from the beginning. We will focus on building techniques and understanding this amazing live medium. You will learn all the essentials so we can end the day with a landscape painting that we hope will be the first of many more to come!

Zan Barrage Watercolour Classes Materials List

Brushes – White Taklon or Gold Toray good synthetic brushes in Round #’s 8, 10 and 12

- Neptune Brand Mop Brush #4 or #6 OR a 1” Hake Brush- Goat Hair will do the same thing

Paper – 1 pad of 9”x12” Arches 100% Cotton 140lb Cold Press Paper 10 sheets for your masterpieces!

1 pad of 9”x 12” Canson XL 140lb Cold Press Paper 30 sheets for practise paintings!

Colours – Please use only professional brand paints such as the following brands:

DaVinci Artist Watercolours, Daniel Smith Watercolours, H.Graham, Holbein, Grumbacher but

not Academy, Winsor Newton Artist Watercolours but not Cotman paints, QOR

The recommended paints for this class would be the Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolour Essentials Set of 6 colours, currently on sale at Maggiolly’s for $65.00 for the set!

Here is a full set of colours that you should have:

Hansa Yellow Light, Lemon Yellow OR Cadmium Lemon

Indian Yellow, New Gamboge, OR Cadmium Yellow

French Ultramarine Blue

Phthalo Blue (Green Shade)

Permanent Red, Cadmium Red or Cadmium Scarlet

Alizarin Crimson OR Carmine

Oxide of Chromium

Here are some extra colours that are always nice to have

A week before the workshop, decant your colours into the palette paint holders and let the colours dry overnight.

A Palette to hold your colours. A leak proof fold over watercolour palette with areas for mixing is ideal.

Paper Towels, masking tape, frisket or masking fluid.
