John Singer Sargeant: Light in Watercolour
Watercolour is the most fascinating medium…light filled and layered, it delivers more than you put into it. The magic is endless, whether a landscape or portrait or invention. No other medium shines from beneath and infuses the paper with colourful intensity just by its inherent alchemy.
Students will use Sargeant’s watercolours to be led in a discovery of light in watercolour: cool and warm conrasts, and dark and light (value study).
Daily exercises and completed projects will propel your paintings. Martha is an experimental watercolourist but for this workshop students go back to the 19th century and the brilliance of Sargeant to guide us.
Students are responsible for their own art materials.
