It's THE Drawing Class: Black & White Drawing with CJ Shelton

This drawing course will revisit the fundamentals of simple black and white drawing which can be a great way to sharpen your skills of observation, dexterity and confidence or simply recapture the joy of drawing! This fun and skill-enhancing course will explore both traditional and innovative approaches to black and white drawing with pencil and pen an ink. The use of different media and paper surfaces as well as basic rendering techniques in gesture, contour drawing, cross-hatching, stippling, brush and ink, etc will be explored. Basic perspective drawing will also be covered. Each session will give you tips on how to effectively create depth, tone, contrast and shadow through exploring a variety of subject matter such as still life, landscape, architecture and animals. The goal in this course is to expand your personal powers of observation, promote connection with your subject matter and improve your ability to express with feeling. Emphasis will be on traditional approaches to drawing from observation, balanced with concern for design and personal expression. A materials list will be available from the instructor prior to the first class.
CJ Shelton has over 30 years of experience as a technical illustrator and mandala artist and is well known for her highly detailed architectural renderings and animal drawings. Water Colour Technique– Free flowing and directional
Impasto– Descriptive and textured
Wet on dry– on a coloured ground and layered
Glazing– using water and mediums

Terms of Registration-
A list of course specific art supplies is provided to students at registration. Students are expected to provide their own art supplies unless the course indicates that supplies are included. Any required art supplies are available for purchase at the Maggiolly Art Supplies store. The store is open Monday to Friday: 10:00am - 6:00pm, Saturdays 10:00am - 5:00pm and Sundays 12:00pm - 4:00pm.
Pre-registration and payment are required at least two weeks before classes start. There are no refunds once classes begin and there is a 20% administration fee charged if a student cancels within the two week period before a class is scheduled to start. All classes have specific minimum registration requirements in order to run, ususally based on 6 students, but some classes may require more students. Generally, there is a 10 student maximum per classes, however again, some classes may accommodate more students. Maggiolly Art reserves the right to cancel any courses which do not meet the minimum registration requirement, in which case a full refund will be issued.
Maggiolly Art cannot be held responsible for any accident which may occur on our premises during an art class. The participant of any art class assumes that participation involves the risk of an accident occuring and the participant or parent/guardian of the participant who is under 18 years of age, must assume all responsibility. Maggiolly Art will also not be held responsible for any lost or misplaced items belonging to any art class participant.
Payment is accepted by Visa, MasterCard, Debit, Cheque or cash and can be made by phone, by mail or in person.
