 What are acrylic mediums?
Acrylic mediums are essentially acrylic paint without the pigment. Liquid, semi-liquid, or thick gels can be mixed with acrylic paints to perform a wide range of functions: add gloss, add texture, thicken or thin paint, increase open time (make the paint dry slower), subtly change colour and much more. Many mediums or gels act like glues to adhere collage elements or other physical texture to painting surfaces. Modelling paste has a very high viscosity for building surfaces and holding crisp textural detail. Mediums can be thinned with water, mixed with each other and mixed with paint. The possibilities are limitless. |
